Fairfield, CA (July 10, 2026) – This November, Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District (FSUSD) will have three Board trustee seats open for election in Trustee Areas: 4, 5, and 7. To assist prospective candidates, FSUSD’s Governance Subcommittee is hosting an informational meeting:

The informational session, led by current Governance Subcommittee members, is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the roles, responsibilities, and expectations of a Governing Board Trustee. This session is crucial for those considering running for a seat and will offer insights into the critical aspects of board service.
Topics to be covered include:
The Brown Act: The importance of holding conversations only in public meetings
Board/Superintendent relationship: Working as a Governance Team
Collective governance: Acting as one body, not as seven individuals
Student achievement and goals in the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP)
School finance: Navigating and understanding state and federal funding
Leadership: Doing your homework, attending meetings, and involvement in schools/events
The session will also include a question and answer segment, allowing attendees to engage with current Board members in FSUSD and gain a deeper understanding of what it means to serve on the Board.
To qualify as a candidate, individuals must meet the following mandated requirements:
Be at least 18 years old
Reside within the trustee area they seek to represent
Be a registered voter
Not be currently employed by FSUSD (unless you resign upon taking office)
Although elected by their respective areas, trustees work collectively to provide governance for the entire district, impacting the education of over 20,000 students and supporting more than 2,000 employees.
