2nd and 3rd grade students discover new talents due in part to Proposition 28 funding

Fairfield, CA (May 29, 2026) – Oakbrook Academy of the Arts recently transformed its campus into a celebration of creativity as students took center stage for the school’s 2nd grade art show and 3rd grade production of The Jungle Book. From colorful student artwork lining the halls to confident young performers on stage, these events highlighted the growing impact of arts education at FSUSD schools.

The showcase was more than just a performance, it was an opportunity for students to step outside their comfort zones and discover new talents. Students built confidence and practiced collaboration skills from the moment they started preparing, to the big events on May 21st.

Thanks in part to the State of California’s Proposition 28, Oakbrook has expanded its opportunities for students to explore theater arts and creative expression in meaningful ways. The funding has helped provide students with increased access to performance opportunities, arts instruction, and hands-on experiences.

“This was a wonderful example of what happens when students are given the opportunity to express themselves creatively,” said Oakbrook Principal Aimee McGinty. “We watched students support one another and shine in ways they may have not imagined before. The confidence they gain through experiences like this extends far beyond the stage.”

“This work exemplifies the District’s commitment to ensuring every student has access to enriching arts education,” said FSUSD Superintendent Jennifer Sachs. “It’s inspiring to see our students participate in activities that ignite their future potential.”

“Our students truly enjoyed participating in these experiences,” said Oakbrook teacher Jen Chase, who helped organize the events. “Watching their growth and love for the arts has been incredibly rewarding.”

As families admired the student artwork on display and applauded the performance, the evening served as a reminder of the power of arts education to inspire every student.
