Fairfield, CA (May 14, 2025) - Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District (FSUSD) proudly celebrated the multilingual achievements of over 490 students at the 2025 Language Proficiency Ceremony, held on April 28th at Fairfield High School’s gymnasium.

This uplifting event recognized two remarkable student milestones: the graduation of 387 students from FSUSD’s English Learner Program, and the award of the prestigious State Seal of Biliteracy to 106 graduating seniors. Families, educators, and district leaders gathered to honor students for their hard work, resilience, and commitment to academic and linguistic excellence.

The State Seal of Biliteracy is awarded to students who have demonstrated fluency in English and at least one other language. This accomplishment not only reflects academic achievement but also prepares students for success in a global workforce and multicultural world. At the same time, the ceremony celebrated students of all grade levels who passed the English Language Proficiency Assessments (ELPAC), marking their exit from the English Learner Program and their progression as confident, capable communicators.

“This event is the highlight of each year,” said Christine Harrison, the Director of English Learners and Instructional Support for FSUSD. “We’re proud to honor these students whose multilingual skills reflect both academic excellence and the rich cultural diversity of our district. Their voices strengthen our community and inspire a more connected, thriving future for Solano County.”

“The atmosphere was filled with pride and excitement,” said FSUSD Superintendent Jennifer Sachs. “This is just another way in which our exemplary students shine a spotlight on the district’s commitment to honoring identity, culture, and the power of language in shaping strong, inclusive communities.”

With dozens of world languages spoken across FSUSD – from Arabic and Tagalog to Spanish and Punjabi – the celebration highlighted the excitement of not only the students themselves, but the families and community members in attendance. As FSUSD continues to expand opportunities for language development, the district remains dedicated to preparing students to lead in an interconnected world—where communication, culture, and curiosity are key to success.
